Ed Rendel's economic plan
From what I saw, Ed Rendel's plan to increase education while trying to tighten the budget sounded pretty good. I do believe that video poker machines should be legalized because a thriving black market does no good to the economy, and only benefits illegal underground operations. If the Pennsylvania government took it one step further and issued them out, it would be able to bring in even more profits to make up for the budget deficit. Promoting better education by allowing more students to attend college is also a good idea. Without extra government aid, surely less people would be ale to afford to go to college. By allowing this to occur, we would be crippling the future of many individuals and of that entire generation.

My view on marijuana legislation:
Marijuana has only been illegal in the US since 1937. Before that it was responsibly used by many and was an important part of the economy. It was made illegal because of ethnocentric lies put out and lobbying done by paper, tobacco, and alcohol industries. Now we spend billions of dollars "cleaning up the streets" of marijuana and locking up non violent, responsible citizens when we could be taxing marijuana and making mass profits in doing so.
The fact is that marijuana is less of a health hazard than alcohol and cigarettes. No one as ever overdosed or died from it; you certainly can not say the same about alcohol and cigarettes. On top of that, it relieves pain to cancer patients, and does not have the same addictive effects that opiate based pills such as morphine do.
Legalization would create a thriving marijuana and hemp industry that would create new jobs and become a source of revenue for the government. Legal tax-paying corporations would be selling FDA regulated marijuana rather then a local drug dealer selling marijuana that may be laced with a dangerous substance. A hemp industry would be very beneficial because it could possibly replace wood based paper because it is cheaper to produce, more energy efficient, and would hinder deforestation. Hemp can also produce ethanol, and does so more efficiently then corn and sugar cane.
It is really a wonder to me why marijuana is not legal. The American people are plagued by misconceptions about the issue. Once more people learn the truth, hopefully change can be made in the future.
